Book-It Repertory Theatre's new stage version of the book has condensed and cast her story wisely and well. The Seattle Times

...a perfectly splendid evening’s entertainment. —examiner.com

Jane Austen’s fourth novel centers on the well-intentioned Emma and her sometimes indiscreet, often misapplied, and always entertaining efforts as matchmaker. Witty, intelligent, and spoiled, Emma takes it upon herself to arrange a suitable marriage for her poor friend Harriet. But despite her advantages, she is oblivious to the true nature of almost everyone around her—including herself—until at last she happily loses her own heart. Austen’s deliciously droll descriptions, ironic observations, and generous happy endings are Book-It fan favorites.

The real evils, indeed, of Emma's situation were the power of having rather too much her own way, and a disposition to think a little too well of herself... —Jane Austen

PARTICIPATE IN OUR CHILDREN’S BOOK DRIVE

Throughout the run of Emma, Book-It will host a book drive benefiting Page Ahead Literary Children’s Literacy Program —a wonderful organization that is very near and dear to our literacy mission. Page Ahead gives kids in need the chance to read: with new books for children; literacy support for families; and reading resources for communities. Guided by the fact that literacy is essential to lifelong success, they provide new books and develop reading activities that empower at-risk children.

For the past two years, we have partnered with them on our very successful Target Family Fun Series, which gives local youth a chance to come and experience our educational touring stories for free. We always look for ways to support each other and our valuable missions and have established this book drive in honor of our partnership.

When you come to the theatre, look for the box in the lobby where you may donate your new children's books. After November 22, we will deliver the books to Page Ahead who will then pass them along to at-risk youth in the community. Reading is the key to success for any young children and we are grateful for your help in supporting that success for our community.
