CAST AND ARTISTS

"There is sage smell and rose waft. There is fly buzz and polka yip. Way off, horse lips flutter; she hears the goats at pasture and the far, faint sounds of the girls tending their herd. The bird herd." --Tom Robbins, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues

This sexy, metaphorical romp by Tom Robbins was a late-'70s counterculture favorite. Spiritual, goofy, political, and poetic, Robbins' brilliant intellectual plots lead us one way, followed fast by a twisting curveball. Heroine Sissy Hankshaw's unusually large thumbs point her toward her physiological destiny: she becomes an underground hitchhiking legend. At the end of the road, FBI agents, whooping cranes, and the eponymous cowgirls collide in our story's climax at the Rubber Rose Ranch.

"The new [Book-it Repertory Theatre] production of Even Cowgirls Gets the Blues hits the same cosmic gong of enlightenment the book did, making you laugh and think in equal proportions." Michael Dare, Los Angeles Free Press
