Where the Mountain Meets the Moon

by Grace Lin

Minli loves listening to her father tell fantastic stories of dragons, jewels, and the Old Man of the Moon, but working in the shadow of Fruitless Mountain does not provide her family with much more than these stories. Saddened by her mother's dissatisfaction, Minli sets out to change her family's fortune for the better aided by a talking Goldfish. Guided by the folktales her father told and the many histories she hears from new friends along the way, Minli travels unimaginable distances only to discover the greatest fortune has been with her all along.

Each performance runs between 25 and 45 minutes and can be performed in venues as small as a classroom or as large as an auditorium. In conjunction with each performance, Book-It offers workshops for children and young adults to reinforce what they have seen. Students can use voice, body, and imagination to create characters and explore environments, or develop a play in the Book-It Style™ from their own story.  These workshops allow young people to make the leap between seeing art and creating it.
